This is a very fine example of a Colt Model 1862 Police revolver that was manufactured in 1861, the first year of production. The top of the barrel is marked "-ADDRESS SAML COLT HARTFORD CT-", the left side of the frame is marked "COLTS / PATENT", and one cylinder flute is marked "PAT. SEPT. 10th 1850". The matching serial number is marked on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, back strap, cylinder and cylinder pin, with the partial number "419" on the wedge. Brass cone front and hammer notch rear sights; the barrel and cylinder are blue, the frame, loading lever, and hammer casehardened and the trigger guard and back strap silver plated brass. Fitted with a smooth one piece varnished walnut grip. Complete in a oak London style case with a brass inset shield on the lid and red velvet lining. Included in the case is a brass cleaning rod, screwdriver/nipple wrench, two cavity iron bullet mold marked "COLT'S / PATENT" on the sprue and "36P" on the right arm, a rare Dixon sloped charger powder flask with dram measurement markings on the spout, an unopened original box of 5 combustible envelope cartridges, a W.&C. Eley cap tin partially full, and 7 lead bullets.

Condition: Very fine. The barrel retains 60% plus original blue finish with a smooth brown patina on the balance. The cylinder retains 70% original blue finish with areas of smooth brown and gray patina. The frame and hammer retain 95% of the original bright case colors. The loading lever retains 60% original case colors with a smooth mottled silver gray patina on the balance. The trigger guard and back strap retain 70% original silver plating, with an attractive aged patina on the exposed brass. The grip is excellent with 98% original varnish, some lower edge wear and a few minor dings and nicks. All of the markings remain clear and crisp. The action is excellent. The period English style case is fine with scattered minor scratches and dings on the exterior, some fading and contact wear to the lining and a loose compartment wall. The bullet mold is very good, retaining much of the original blue finish with some minor spotting, the flask retains most of it's original finish, as does the screwdriver/wrench and the cartridge container is excellent.
