This is an excellent example of a desirable Model 1908 Commercial luger that was produced by the DWM factory. These 1908 models were the first true production lugers that all other military lugers were to be patterned after. These lugers were produced from 1908 through 1913. This model of luger can be distinguished from the later models, based on two notable features; 1) they were made without a hold-open device and 2) they are not fitted with a stock attachment lug. The top of the chamber area is blank with the rear toggle having the DWM logo. The right side of the barrel extension is blank and the left side has the commercial crown over "U" and "B" proofs, the underside of the barrel has the five digit serial number along with the commercial crown over "B", "U" and "G" proofs, and the crown over "U" proof is also marked on the left side of the breechblock. Since this is a commercial luger, DWM serial numbered these in a commercial style, intended to hide the serial numbers. Various parts are marked with the last two digits of the serial number. They all exhibit an exceptional high polish, rust blued finish with straw colors on the small parts, unmarked nickel body magazine with wooden base and fitted with checkered walnut grips. Complete in a pebble grain leather wrapped factory pattern reproduction hard case with green felt lining, and nickel hardware. In the case are two extra unmarked commercial nickel magazines with wood bases, (one electro penciled "JAM"), takedown tool, cleaning rod and punch tool.
BBL: 4 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 9 mm Luger
Finish: blue
Grips: walnut
Serial Number: 39766
Condition: Excellent as partially refinished. The pistol retains 95% plus original blue finish with some muzzle and high edge wear (cold blue present) and some minor thinning on the back of the frame. There is some minor pitting on the left side of the muzzle. With the exception of the safety lever, the small components retain 70% of the original straw color, the safety lever has a smooth mottled silver gray patina with straw color in the protected areas. The grips are very fine with some scattered minor pressure dents and crisp checkering. Some markings are highlighted in white and all markings remain clear. Mechanically excellent. The reproduction case is very fine with a small amount of minor contact wear on the lining.
