Cased Colt Model 1878 Frontier Double Action Cartridge Revolver, #25094, .476 Eley CF cal., 5.5'' round barrel marked ''Colt's Pt. F.A. Mfg. Co. Hartford CT U.S.A. Depot 14 Pall Mall London'' in one line, and ''.476-Cal.'' on left side; finely checkered brown hard rubber two-piece grips show the Rampant Colt logo within an oval cartouche, with steel lanyard loop on butt. Made pre-1898 for the British market, having tiny British proofmarks in each cylinder flute. Shipped March 24, 1890, to Colt's Patent Fire-Arms Mfg. Co., London Agency, London, England, 37 guns in shipment, with factory letter verifying all features. Condition is good retaining no original finish (metal appears to have been chemically cleaned) being overall a smooth gunmetal color. Grips are near fine having light wear, sharp checkering, nice color and no damage. Action is crisp, bore is clean with discernible rifling. Case is a period English mahogany box relined and repurposed, fits the gun very well and is in very good condition, having a longitudinal crack in the lid, with a reproduction Colt label inside and brass cartouches. No accessories in case. A nice Colt with the desirable (even rare) large British .476 caliber. Est.: $750-$1,000. (Antique)
