This is an example of a Colt Model 1849 Pocket revolver that was manufactured during the Civil War in 1863. The revolver had a blue barrel and cylinder, casehardened frame, loading lever and hammer, and brass silver-plated trigger guard and back strap. The top of the barrel is marked "ADDRESS COL SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA", the left side of the frame is marked "COLTS/PATENT" and the left trigger guard shoulder is marked "31 CAL". The cylinder is roll-engraved with the Stagecoach Holdup scene and "COLTS PATENT/No 35685". The complete matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the barrel lug, frame, trigger guard and back strap. The partial serial number, "35685" is stamped on the wedge, arbor pin and cylinder, and the loading lever is marked "5685". Fitted with a smooth one-piece varnished walnut grip. The revolver is complete with a wooden American style case lined with wine colored velvet. The case has five compartments and contains a two cavity bullet mold, eagle flask, Eley Bros cap tin (partially full), unopened 100-count H.S.B. No. 10 cap tin and two keys.

Condition: Fine. The barrel and cylinder have a smooth brownish gray patina. The cylinder retains 95% of the scene. The frame retains 70% original bright case colors with a smooth silver gray on the balance and the loading lever retains 25% original case colors with a smooth silver gray on the balance. The back strap and trigger guard retain 75% original silver plating which has darkened in areas. The exposed brass has an aged patina. The grip is very fine with 95% original varnish, a few moderate dents on the right side, several small dents on the bottom and some minor lower edge wear. The markings are clear. The action is fine. The relined, non factory case has been lightly sanded and oiled, and remains very good with a minor crack running across the bottom and some high point contact wear on the lining. The accessories are good.
