For your consideration is this Casas Grande polychrome fish effigy vessel dating to circa A.D. 1550. This is a Ramos Polychrome and is characterized by fine line work in black and red. The bold red motifs, include triangles, step triangles, circles, and long ribbons, and are often outlined in thin, even, and precisely executed black design with a fish effigy clearly seen in the decoration of this vessel. This vessel shows even and consistent shaping. Vessel forms often consist of steep neck less jars that gradually slope end ward, ollas with globular bodies and straight narrow openings, steep bowls and effigies. This vessel shows crisp black lines with black motifs of fins on both sides. the condition of this pottery vessel is good with no obvious signs of damage or repair and shows some wear consistent with the age of vessel. The measurements of this pottery vessel are 5" x 7 1/2" x 5 1/2".
