Measuring 11 inches across and 1 1/4 inches deep, this is a hardwood platter, with a carved Nazi eagle in the center, and the rim showing raised oak leaf designs at the sides, with the raised lettering "Fuhrer-Hauptquartier." at the top and "4.11.39.-2.5.42." at the bottom. Arrayed through Nazi territory, the Fuhrer Headquarters were a group of 14 compounds designated for use by Hitler as command centers, the most famous being the Fuhrerbunker where he spent the last days of the war. Notes from the consignor state that platters such as these were presented by Hitler to the unit commanders responsible for defending the headquarters.
