'Ljungman' Swedish military direct gas operated semi-automatic service rifle chambered in 6.5x55mm Swedish, manufactured circa 1943. The AG42 was designed in 1941 and put into production the very next year, with room for improvements nearly all of the 30,000 produced were modified between 1953-1956. The modified rifles such as this one were designated with a "B" suffix on the model designation and on the serial number. The changes include large charging cones on both sides of the top cover, a rubber shell deflector, a new rear sight knob, a stainless steel gas tube, new cleaning rod and new magazine. Imported by C.A.I. of St. Albans, V.T. with import marks on the barrel. It features a blued finish, an internally threaded 24.5" barrel with integral muzzle break, windage adjustable hooded post front sight, elevation adjustable rear sight tuned for spitzer bullets, smooth trigger, manual safety on the rear of the receiver, integral stripper clip guide on the top cover, 10 round detachable magazine, cleaning rod, provisions for a bayonet, smooth brown leather sling, smooth wood handguard and pistol grip shoulder stock with finger grooved forend, brass stock disc & smooth metal buttplate. The serial numbers match on the receiver, bolt(elecrto-pencil), bolt carrier(electro-pencil), and buttplate. The stock disk is marked 6.51" bore diameter, #3 bore condition and 0 holdover. Rifle exhibits approximately 70% of it's finish with thinning, wear and scattered handling marks. Action is strong, the bore has good luster with scattered light pitting and the wood stocks are near good with cracks extending from the buttplate. Condition is NRA Good. ***C&R Firearm*** From The John F Sukey Collection
