The lot features two Sioux beaded miniature moccasins from the Duhamel Trading Post in Rapid City, South Dakota dating to circa 1907-1920’s. Both beaded pieces are from the Sioux at Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. The Duhamel Trading Post was established in Rapid City, South Dakota in 1907 by Pete Duhamel, born in 1839 in Canada and moved to Rapid City, Dakota Territory in 1879. A digital photograph is shown in the description of the inside of Duhamel Trading Post with the walls lined with Indian wares such as Indian blankets, rugs, sculpture, beadwork, leather goods and more. The first set exhibits Indian tanned hide trade thread sewn pin / brooch with older brass colored safety pin back. The beadwork is all period glass trade seed beads showing greasy white, light sky padre blue and blue. Next is another miniature set of moccasins with Indian tanned hide trade thread sewn with the same brass colored safety pin on the back. The pin / brooch front has a diamond shape and the beads are all period glass trade seed beads in colors of chalk white, red and cobalt. From the Duhamel Trading Post and Pine Ridge Indian Reservation from the Sioux circa 1907-1920’s. The pins are each 2.5”L by 1.5”W.
