Ca. 1903- Plains Indian Ledger Art Land Deed
The lot features an original circa 1903 Pennsylvania Coal Land Deed with original large Plains Indian Ledger Art Drawings. The paperwork is for the sale of land and coal in the Pittsburg or River Vein for $1522.95 to a West Virginia couple Deed Form No. 15 General Warranty Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. When completely folded out the piece is hand drawn with pencil and colored pencil with a Buffalo / Bison kill scene, showing the Indian Warrior with several arrows in the Buffalo standing with his bow in hand. Behind him is the war horse fully painted with his coup lance. There is a small snake in the bottom left corner, a signature of sorts. The piece is from the same collection as the Blemmingham Ledger book collection, the very same as the 1890-1891 Buffalo Kill Ledger sold in 2022 by NAAC for $2,016. The original deed dates to circa 1903, the artwork appears to be of an older age but exact age is unknown. The document measures 28”L by 8 3/8”W when laid out (and 3.5” by 8 3/8” when folded up). One of the largest ledger arts from this collection we have offered.
