Featured in this lot we have a pair of John Rigby, Dublin Damascus percussion cap dueling pistols chambered in .50 caliber with case and accessories. These pistols where crafted by John Rigby in Dublin Ireland between 1818-. Rigby firearms since circa 1775 have gone by the names of John Rigby & Co., John Rigby & Son, William and John Rigby / Wm. & Jn. Rigby, Dublin, John Rigby & Co. London. The top of this gun is marked Rigby Dublin and the box John Rigby and Son which dates the set as being from circa 1816-1818. It appears the set was converted from a John Rigby flintlock to Nixon Percussion Cap later, but done very well. Very few dueling pistol sets dating back to John Rigby and Son are offered on the open marked with later William and John Rigby sets selling for nearly $30,000 at auction. Each authentic John Rigby firearm is serialized, with this set being marked under the barrel, a photo is shown, with a serial number of ME-2818. The pistols each feature a 9" long octagonal Damascus etched barrel, walnut stock, etched trigger guard, lock plate, percussion cap serpentine hammer, and under barrel ram rod. The lock plate, trigger guard, hammer, and pommel plate all display floral etched patterns with a silver medallion showing a eagle design on the back of the grips. The barrels show a wonderful Damascus pattern with a gold band across the back, fixed sights, and engraved floral patterns near the band. The top of the barrel is marked with "Rigby Dublin" and the lock plate is marked with "NIXON". The brace of pistols comes with a walnut case with brass hardware and accents with black powder accessories The interior of the case displays a fitted green felt interior with sections showing ball, wads, powder flask, oil container, and percussion cap tin. The underside of the lid show a "Rigby and Son Gun Maker" paper add. The set comes with an old catalog clipping on the guns and there manufacture. The set shows good condition overall with little to no wear across the pistols and some light wear to the case. Rigby firearms have gone by the name of Rigby The dueling pistol set weighs 10lbs. 12oz. This firearm qualifies as an Antique, and does not require FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.
