MARTIAL PARTS PICTURED IN SUTHERLAND. Cal. 36. S# 51. Assembled from parts obtained from W. Stokes Kirk of Philadelphia, 1945-50. These unusual revolvers are described w/ a list of known S#s (1-120) on page 131 of “The Book of Colt Firearms” by R. L. Wilson. Photo in book is of S# “18” from the Robert Q. Sutherland Collection. Bbl. 7 1/2" octagon w/ New York address & cone style sight. Round six shot cyl. w/ naval engagement scene scroll engraving. Case colored frame is marked of left side “U.S.” beneath the Colt’s Patent marking. Backstrap & 3rd model round trigger guard have natural brass finish. Frame, trigger guard, backstrap & cyl. are serial numbered “51”. Loading lever is serial numbered “9”. Bbl. & wedge are unnumbered. Backstrap has “K” inspection mark, w/ “M” inspection mark on trigger guard & “T” inspection mark on cyl. Cyl. & trigger guard have inspection mark “H”. Refinished 1 piece walnut grips have partially visible cartouches. CONDITION: very fine. Bbl. retains over 80% lightly faded blue showing edge wear. Cyl. has faded to gray showing spotted corrosion & retains very good scene. 40% case colored remains on the frame & fittings. Brass has acquired a mild patina showing dark spots. Grips are heavily sanded & refinished. Sound mechanics. Bore is bright w/ strong rifling. (01-22895/JS). ANTIQUE. $2,000-3,000.
