CIVIL WAR ERA INSCRIBED SLOCUM  SLIDING SLEEVE

Cal. 32RF. S# 1162. Slocum patented unique cylinder, each of 5 chambers is a sliding sleeve, which locks when not loading or unloading. When reloading the chamber sleeve is unlocked and pushed forward, which ejects cartridge brass and new cartridge can be loaded, then the sleeve is moved back and locked for firing. Manufactured late war by Brooklyn Arms Company, maker's mark and patent on top of barrel. Engraved brass frame with spur trigger. Backstrap is finely engraved "B. Smith to A.C. Goodrich, March 21 1865".
There are several possibilities for A.C. Goodrich, none being soldiers. The gun was thought to be used by a policeman in New York City. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: small file of research, and 1912 small book on history of Goodrich family. CONDITION: very good overall, gray/plum iron patina, brass has traces of silver plate, sound solid well fit bag grips. Inscription is easily read as our other markings. Mechanics are fine, good rifled bore. PROVENANCE: Lifelong Collection of Robert "Mike" Bricker. (01-24962/JS). ANTIQUE. $500-700.
