CIRCA 1820-1835 COMPOSITE AMERICAN SABER.
Overall length: 34". Blade length: 27 1/2". Blade has a single large fuller with gold highlighted etching on a blued field over half its length. Etching includes foliate, patriotic & military motifs. Classic 5 ball style brass guard with a downturned quillon. The single branch has a 5 ball decoration, as does the knuckle bow. The eagle head pommel is a non period replacement, as is the inappropriate wooden grip. Silvered brass mounted leather scabbard. CONDITION: blade retains approx. 50% of gold highlights & blued field. The balance of the blade has a medium gray mottled patina. The guard & knuckle bow are original to the sword, but the pommel & grip are not. The scabbard retains only traces of silvered finish and has a tape repair near the tip. (02-19219/BF). $300-500.
