C. 1950- Santee Sioux Beaded Buffalo Horn Bonnet
The lot features a unique dance bonnet headdress from the Santee Sioux with beadwork dating to circa 1950-1960's. The piece shows thick felt cap with trade canvas lining and covered in thick canvas with beautifyl whimiscal floral beadwork. Atop show two carved wood horns in a Buffalo / Bison shape being painted red and adorned with plume feather or hide triming at the horsn and beaded brow band edge. The beadwork shows glass trade seed beads in greasy yellow, greasy green, white, maroon, red, blue. Thre is some slight bead loss and it appears to have some sinew sewing. The inside has an older collection tag marked, "Blessings Bonnet $450.00 WM010". There are some red white and blue ribbon fringes on both sides with some loss. Some slight bead loss but displays wonderfully. The headdress bonnet is 10"H by 13"W by 9.5"D.
