C. 1900 Kenton Brand Union Cast Iron Bank
Offered in this lot is this Cast Iron Kenton Brand Union Bank, circa 1900. This very small antique cast iron bank, in the form of a safe, is called a "Union Bank" and was manufactured by "Kenton Brand". It has a combination lock that functions. The bank has lots of charm and character. The door opens and closes, the lock functions. First known as the Kenton Lock Manufacturing Co., in 1894 the name was changed to the Kenton Hardware Manufacturing Company and production of toys was begun… stoves, banks and fire company outfits. The golden age of American cast iron banks lasted from 1869 to 1910. There are two types of these banks — still and mechanical. Still banks are primarily repositories and usually take the form of an animal, human figure or a building with a coin slot.
This cast iron "Union Bank" is in good overall condition, a rich patina throughout. No marring noted, measures 3.5"H x 2.5"W x 2.5"L
