C. 1870 Chiricahua Apache Metal Tip Arrows (3)
The lot features a set of three original circa 1870 Chiricahua Apache cane arrows with forged iron metal tips, polychrome painted finish and feather fletching from the ex-Wasko collection. The three arrows are comprised of cane bodies with a long solid wood shaft inserted into the front of the cane shaft secured with wrappings of sinew. The fronts have a black mineral pigement painted finish, a typical Western Apache documented feature, along with each having a forged sheet iron remnant point secured with sinew sewn wrappings. The back shows a nice knocking notch with sinew sewn wrapped feather fletching with black and red mineral pigment painted bands, likely turkey feathers. The set was collected with the previously listed quiver scabbard and are truly fine examples. Provenance: From the ex-collection of Wasko and Mitchell Kwiatkowski. Each arrow is in well preserved condition for its circa 1870's Indian Wars era and measure approximately 31.5"L.
