C. 1800- Feng Shui Wei Gilt Tuo Skanda Bronze
A vintage Bronze Gilt Tibetan Buddhism Wei Tuo Skanda Bodhisattva statue, late 1800's early 1900s. Wei Tuo Skanda Bodhisattva is a guardian deity in Buddhism, often associated with protecting Buddhist teachings and practitioners. Statues of Wei Tuo are commonly found in Buddhist temples and monasteries, where they are venerated for their protective qualities. The use of bronze in this statue signifies a deep connection to traditional Tibetan craftsmanship. Bronze statues are often cast using intricate methods and are known for their durability and lasting beauty. The patron deity of Buddhist temples is standing on a plinth, wearing a general's armour with a lion mask on his waist and holding his right hand upright. His bent right arm has the hand in a position to hold a halberd or sword. Wei Tuo has defined facial features with long earlobes and a slight smile. The bronze figure is in nice condition with usual signs of wear, consistent with age. Little loss of material at the base, to the right hand fingers as well as breakages here and there are visible. Gilding has mostly faded, halberd/sword is missing. Measurements 8.75"H x 5"W x 3"D, weight 4lb, 8oz approximate.
