Butterfield .41 caliber 5-shot revolver with brass frame, 7” octagon barrel, blue finish, wood grips, considered secondary martial, Civil War, serial #189. Refer Flayderman 7A-017. Only approx. 640 of these rare American revolvers were produced, originally on a government contract that was cancelled. The revolver remains in very good plus original condition showing 30-50% original blue on barrel and cylinder that is evenly toning, and some light to slightly heavy scattered erosion and pinprick pitting on the barrel and a developing patina with no cleaning. The frame shows a deep uncleaned natural patina with good markings and more traces of silver with traces of silver where protected. The loading lever shows traces of case hardening within its patina. The hammer has gone to grey. The stocks are good to very good with some minor marks, slight edgewear, normal aging, and both sides of the grips are serial numbered as is the barrel and ramrod. The pistol retains its original priming mechanism and disk primer mechanism in the triggerguard. A far above average example of a very scarce civil war arm. Est: $3,000 - $6,000
