Burnside Civil War carbine in .52 caliber percussion, serial number 28174 with interesting period carving and braised brass repair to the hammer. The right side of the butt stock at the rear by the butt plate is carved W.H. over C.H. over December 4, 1800, F. H. I. The significance of this carbine is unknown as there is at least 60 to 65 years between the manufacture and this date. Possibly a father’s birthdate? As W.H. and C.H. could be father and son. The carbine remains in fair to good condition showing a lightly cleaned metal surfaces with good edges and good markings. The stocks are good with many small marks, some dings and a light coating of shellac or varnish. The action is good and the bore is good. Est.: $900 -$1,800.
