This is an original early Buffalo Bill (aka William Frederick "Buffalo Bill" Cody) Meerschaum pipe from circa 1889. The pipe was manufactured by Dutel-Gislon, a French maker active in the city of Montereau circa 1840-1895. These were offered at the Buffalo Bill Wild West and Congress of Rough Riders French 1889 tour. The pipe shows a bust of Buffalo Bill himself having the iconic facial hair and prominent hat with the bowl at the top. The pipe shows some wear and chipping with the back stem area broken off as shown. Overall an early piece most likely sold to someone at the show. The pipe shows the younger portrait/bust of Buffalo Bill, with most circa 1900- pipes showing his more aged appearance. Measures 1.75"H x 1 3/8"W x 1.5"D.
