British Revolutionary War era officer’s sword with brass-hilt, grooved wood grip, earlier associated blade, interesting brass and ray-skin scabbard. The sword measures 28” overall. The blade is 22-1/2” showing threeearly maker’s stamps on each side. The blade would date late 17th to early 18th century in our opinion and was reduced and remounted with the sword circa approx. 1760-1780 in our opinion as it was a common practice at thetime as good blades were never thrown away. The blade shows some pitting and erosion and is good, the hilt and guard show a good patina, the grip is good with a few cracks, the pommel nut is undisturbed and appears tohave been made with the blade. The scabbard is made of ray skin and is made of brass. The mountings on the rear are off of a British type sword, the front mounting is oriental. The scabbard has been reduced and has beenwith the sword for a long while and was carried with it. An interesting revolutionary war sword that was started in Britian, may have traveled to the colonies and throughout the world during its working life. Est: $900
