British Military General Service Medal

Estimate: $1300 - 1900
The British Military General Service Medal was awarded to British Army soldiers who served in campaigns related to the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars (1793-1814) and was issued in 1847. This example was awarded to Thomas Allen of the 39th Regiment of Foot. The silver medal has the Nive and Nivelle clasps. The Nive and Nivelle were two river crossings during the later stages of the Peninsula War against Napoleon Bonaparte where the British Army chased the French Army over the border into France. There were many casualties associated with these two river crossings. The medal has been attached to a display card (two staples through the ribbon) which has a paper identification card.
