This is an example of a military flintlock musket manufactured by Ketland & Co. Ketland & Co. operated in Birmingham, England, from the late 1700s and to the early 1800s to become one of the most prominent and active British makers of the day. John and Thomas Ketland were the sons of Thomas Ketland and grandsons of William Ketland, who had been making locks and guns for the colonies since the early 18th Century. The lock plate on this musket is script marked "Ketland/& Co" ahead of the hammer. The left rear side of the barrel is stamped with two crown proofs and a large "GR" with the barrel having a front sight/bayonet lug. The full length stock has brass furniture including the side plate and buttplate. The stock also has three barrel wedges, a large brass oval with monogram behind the barrel tang and a flat buttplate. The musket has an unmarked socket bayonet with a triangular blade measuring 17 1/2 inches long and an iron button head ramrod.

Condition: Fine overall The barrel has a smooth crisp brown patina and the action has a bright appearance with pin point pitting (mostly on the barrel). The brass a mixed patina. The stock is also fine with a number of minor handling marks. Mechanically fine.
