You are bidding on a Boy Scout hatchet made by the Bridgeport Hardware Manufacturing Corporation in the 1950's. Bridgeport Manufacturing Co. was founded in 1895 by Willis F. Hobbs. It was reorganized in 1902 as the Bridgeport Hardware Manufacturing Corporation (stamped on to the hatchet's handle) after a fire burned the factory down in 1900. The reorganised company offered a wide variety of tools, including different versions of the Boy Scout camp hatchet. These hatchets were produced for BSA from 1934-1969. This hatchet features an integral handle and head for safety and a nail puller for added utility. The handle is inlaid with a hickory grip. On the poll is stamped "Bridgeport" and the Boy Scout crest bearing the words "be prepared" is stamped on the head. The shaft of the handle is stamped with the company's name and "Bridgeport, Conn. U.S.A." The hatchet is in well used but good condition. 13 3/4" L x 5' blade
