Bob Hope Vest from Beau James
This period vest was worn by the character “James ‘Jimmy’ Walker,” portrayed by actor Bob Hope, in the 1957 motion picture, “Beau James.” The vest is constructed of gray wool with satin buckled back and four front pockets, and was custom made for Mr. Hope by renowned tailoring house Sy Devore. The interior of the garment has a Paramount Pictures Inc. Men’s Wardrobe stamp and Sy Devore label with the name “Bob Hope,” production date “6/15/56,” and made to order number “4777” clearly typed. “Beau James” was one of Bob Hope’s rare dramatic roles and also featured outstanding performances by Vera Miles, Alexis Smith, and Darren McGavin. Mr. Hope wore the vest in several scenes of the film, which depicted the life of Jimmy Walker, the flamboyant and slightly corrupt mayor of New York City. The garment is in very good screen worn condition and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from the costume house.
