You are bidding on a Blunt & Syms Factory Engraved .48 Caliber Single Shot Sidehammer Percussion Belt Pistol. The pistol features a heavy 5" octagon barrel, factory engraving, original walnut grip, and side hammer. This is one of the most recognizable American pistols of the pre-Civil War period, this example has the scarce and desirable iron forend, fully engraved frame, hammer, back strap and trigger guard, brass front sight with tiny original notched rear sight intact. This was a popular heavy duty and powerful belt size pistol. Many of which saw service as personal weapons in the Civil War as well as in the gold fields of California and on the western frontier. One of the very few high quality American made and marked single shot pistols of this early pre-cartridge era. It is correctly marked “B & S” over “NEW YORK CAST STEEL” and "RC" on the bottom of the barrel. Excellent mechanical condition, metal ramrod intact (these often missing), overall good condition for age. Minor pitting around percussion nipple and barrel. Antique firearm. Manufactured in 1840-1850. NO FFL transfer or NICS background check required.
