This is an excellent blacksmith forged spontoon pipe tomahawk and stand. A spontoon Pipe Tomahawk of this style would have been traded to the 19th century Native American Indian tribes and are of high demand (tribes such as the Sioux, Cherokee, Blackfeet, Great Lakes, Ojibwa, Northern Plains, & more). The spontoon is hand forged and shows outstanding workmanship with a multi sided bowl and chevron accents. The haft is a beautiful striped wood and features a cap and mouthpiece carved from walrus ivory. The ivory was acquired in the early 1900's and complies with all federal regulation. Attached to the haft is a strand of trade beads strung with sinew. A custom stand has also been made for this piece. The stand and spontoon are both similarly signed by the maker. The spontoon pipe tomahawk is in very good condition. It measures 9.25" x 23.75". The piece shows excellent craftsmanship and quality. The age of the piece is unknown, but shows early craftsmanship styling.
