Blackfoot Parfleche & Beaded Sheath w/ Dag Knife
The lot features a Blackfoot / Blackfeet polychrome parfleche sheath with beadwork paired with a bone handled dag / dagger knife. The sheath is likely a parfleche envelope remnant showing a stiff parfleche rawhide structure with typical polychrome geometric pattern found on other Blackfoot examples done in black, black, red, and yellow being Indian tanned hide sewn. At the top has a wrap of Indian tanned hide, likely buckskin which is thread sewn. The front of the top hide shows a geometric beadwork pattern in glass trade beads with colors of sky light blue, greasy yellow, Cheyenne pink, red white heart and blue. Below the beadwork is a rwo of rolled tin jingle dangle cones. The back has a belt tie in hide. The sheath is paired with an unusual knife showing a carved bone, tusk, or tooth handle with skilled finish showing a guard, incised grip and flaring pommel end having a spotted engraved design. The blade shows a longer double edge short or hand sword pattern, like a longer slender dag / dagger knife showing a median ridge running down the center. The blade was forged and shows one forge fold and imperfections. The bone handle has a dark yellow patina and tha blade has honest patina as well. The age of the set is unknown, the knife appearing to be of antique age and the sheath being remnant older pieces with some refurbishment. Sheath measures 19"L with hide belt tie and fringe bottom with rolled tine dangler. The knife is 13 5/8"L.
