Manufactured in 1878. The top of the barrel is marked "COLT'S PT.F.A.MFG.Co.HARTFORD CT.U.S.A.", the left side of the frame is marked with the three line, three patent dates and the left trigger guard shoulder is marked "45 CAL". The bottom of the barrel under the ejector housing is marked with a "C/P" and "JTC", as well as with the partial serial number "5862". The matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard and back strap, and the loading gate is not marked with an assembly number. The cylinder is marked with a "P". Blue finish with casehardened hammer and frame, blade front and frame notch rear sights, early "bulls-eye" ejector rod head and fitted with a smooth varnished walnut grip. The accompanying factory letter verifies the caliber, blue finish with grips and barrel length as "Not Listed" and that it was shipped as 1 of 50 to H&D Folsom Arms Company New York, New York on May 22, 1878. The remarks state that for that time period the 7 1/2 inch barrel and walnut grips were considered standard issue.
BBL: 7 1/2 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 45 LC
Finish: blue/casehardened
Grips: walnut
Serial Number: 35862
Condition: Very good. The metal surfaces have a smooth brown and gray patina with some traces of original blue finish in protected areas. There is some minor pitting and a few dings on the cylinder. The grip is a bit undersized and has been revarnished some time ago, and remains fine with a few minor dings and dents. The markings remain crisp and clear. The action functions fine, but is slightly out of time.
