This is a fine example of a black powder Colt Single Action Army revolver that has the very desirable roll marked "Colt Frontier Six Shooter" barrel markings. This pistol was made in late 1895. The generally accepted serial number range of 165,000 is when Colts switched to the smokeless powder frames, so this pistol is actually one of the last of the Black Powder series pistol frames produced, just before the Colt factory switched to the transverse cylinder pin retention style frame in 1896. The top of the barrel has the correct, one-line Colt address markings of "COLTS PT. F. A. MFG. Co HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.". The left side of the barrel as noted is marked with the very desirable large roll markings of "COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER", denoting this pistol is chambered for 44-40 caliber. The left side of the frame has the new style Colt two-line patent date markings with the circled Colt rampant Horse logo directly behind the patent markings. The actual caliber (44) is correctly stamped on the rear underside of the barrel directly in front of the frame. It has the correct style hard rubber grips with the circled Colt Rampant Horse logo on each side and the pistol has the blue finish with the casehardened frame and hammer. This pistol is accompanied by a very early unmarked brown leather, military style flap holster. The holster was probably produced in the early 1900s as it has the military style large protective flap, with a single narrow belt loop on the back (which is missing) and not the typical western style large belt loop.
BBL: 7 1/2 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 44-40
Finish: blue
Grips: hard rubber

The holster is fair with a nice brown color overall with age cracking on the top corners of the flap and down the front edge with tight stitching overall with the belt loop missing on the back side. This desirable Colt SAA has matching numbers.
