Thomas (Tommy) Singer (born 1940 - May 31, 2014)
He is one of the most regarded silversmiths in Navajo history having created the ‘CHIP INLAY’ an intricate use of turquoise and coral chips integrated in to the silver work. This method made Mr. Singer famous world around in the 60’s. He is known for his overlay work, storyteller pieces, rug patterns and traditional motifs.
This unique pair of Navajo earrings start with a square piece of Turquoise(? Blue Gem Turquoise) at the top with a trapezium shaped purple spiny oyster dangled from the bottom. Sterling silver twisted rope design surrounds both pieces, with a 5 rain drop bead cluster at the bottom. One of Betty's signature trade marks. The square turquoise at the top measures approximately 12.6 mm without the silver work, the spiny oyster measures approximately 19.7 mm high x 10 mm at the top of the trapezium and 13.5 mm at the bottom without silver work. Overall length of the piece is approximately 43 mm, each earring weighs about 7 g making total weight 14 g. Earrings or stamped Navajo B. Joe (Betty Joe Hallmark, Betty is the formal wife of the late Harry Morgan) NOTE: Earrings have been tested and are Sterling.
