Beautiful pre-war Smith & Wesson 38/44 Heavy Duty DA revolver, .38 Special cal., 5-screw early production large frame, 5” barrel, fully and finely engraved in Germanic style heavy acorn and oak leaf scroll and marked on left top of frame“Paul Jaeger Inc., Jenkintown, PA”, with documentation as being engraved by Claus Willig. The revolver shows fine line gold inlaid borders and scrolls, standard checkered wood medallion grips, serial #44005. The revolver is in mintcondition as restored at time of engraving; the action and bore are fine to excellent, the hammer and trigger show most of their original case hardening. Claus Willig was a very highly regarded engraver who accomplished thismasterpiece pre-1956. The Willig legacy of engravers is chronicled in a copy of the Journal of the German Gun Collectors Association, Winter 2002 edition that accompanies this lot. Paul Jaeger of Pennsylvania handled the best qualityGerman arms available in the post war era and still today imports the finest available sporting arms.
