SHOTGUN. Cal. 12 ga. 2 3/4". S#. 47729 S5. The new style Grade VI or Midas Grade engraving was designed by Louis Vranken and first advertised in the 1957 catalog. The game scenes are bordered by gold inlay with 3 gold mallards on the right and 3 gold pheasants on the left side. The floorplate features a single gold quail. The scenes are surrounded by deep relief vine type foliate scroll and finely shaded backgrounds that extend to the top lever, trigger guard, forend irons and breech ends of bbls. The signature of Master Engraver Andre Watrin is located on the lower rear corner of the left side of the receiver. Top tang has gold safety & bbl. selector markings. Gold plated SST. Selective ejectors. Round knob long tang stock of gloss finished exhibition grade walnut . LOP: 14 1/8" over original buttplate. Brass oval presentation plate in toe line is engraved with initials "MAC". Each bbl. set has an individual matching forend with point pattern wrap around checkering. BBL. 1: 28" with fixed Mod & full chokes. BBL. 2: 26 1/2" with fixed IC & Mod chokes. Both bbls have hand matted vent ribs and white front beads. 1965 Belgian mfg. UNATTACHED ACCESORIES: Browning Style "SB" 2 bbl set Superposed luggage case. The Grade "B" case was a best value" case with black leatherette covering. It was discontinued in 1957. Case lid has an area of scrapes on right side. Case interior is loose in some spots. The original gold Superposed hang tag is present. CONDITION: Very good used condition. Over 85% action blue showing carry wear on receiver edges and trigger guard. Trigger has over 50% gold finish. Both bbls retain over 97% blue and have bright near excellent bores. Original wood finish shows a few light scratches & marks. Action is tight & on face. PROVENANCE: From the Estate of Jon Thomas. (23-1636/DS). curio. $6,000-8,000.
