RIFLE. Cal. .577/.450. NSN. Bbl. 33 1/4". Ladder rear sight graduated to 1300 yards. Stud type front sight. Receiver is marked on right side with "crown VR" / "ENFIELD 1882" / "III." over "1.". MKIII rifle was introduced in 1879 as an improvement over its MKII predecessor and features a wider breech block. The metal parts have the expected "broad arrows" and "view marks". Upper band carries the sling swivel and bayonet lug. Correct cleaning rod is present. Rifle is the short lever type. Walnut buttstock and forend. Buttstock is marked on right side with "crown RM" and "ENFIELD". Roundel enclosing the "WD" and "broad arrow". Also marked with "III" and "I". Rifle equipped with khaki web sling 2" in width with a brass slide. The sling has blued steel hooks on each end which are marked "Parker Hale". UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: 22 1/2" triangular blade patent 1876 bayonet. Bayonet is marked on top of the bright blade with "R", "WD", "broad arrow" and "85". Socket and elbow are blued. Lock ring is present. Triangular black leather scabbard with brass tip and throat marked "WD" and "broad arrow". Bayonet has been professionally refinished. Scabbard has wear and flexing but remains in serviceable condition. Unmarked brown leather belt pouch with strap and stud closure. Pouch has wear and staining with small spots of loose stitching. Also included is copied advertisement of antique British Arms. CONDITION: stock set has added gloss finish over the worn stock set which has numerous handling marks and light staining. Notable crack on right side of grip. Metal has been partially refinished over wear, light oxidation and handling marks. Bore has worn original Henry type rifling with a darkened oxidized appearance.
