Attractive Set of Ivory Grips for a Colt Model 1860 Army Style Revolver, Featuring a Raised Carved Mexican Eagle

Produced from three pieces of carved ivory, the only markings present on the grips are "VI VI VIII" marked on top of the left panel, in the area that would be concealed by the back strap when installed. The significance of these markings, possibly a series of Roman numerals (6 6 8), is unknown. The left panel is smooth, with the right panel showing a circular panel, 1 7/8 inches tall and 1 1/2 inches wide featuring a golden eagle tearing clenching a snake in it's beak and talons while perched on a prickly pear cactus, a variant of the Seal of Mexico. No additional information has been provided by the consignor regarding the origin or maker of this piece.

Very fine, showing a fine color and grain overall, a bit darker in the interior, with traces of tape residue on the left panel, minor chipping at the heel, and a few light age cracks. The carving is finely executed, with fine detail to all elements of the scene.
