The lot features a parfleche rawhide rifle scabbard from the Apache Native American Indians and dating to the 19th Century. The piece fits into a Winchester Repeating Arms Model 1873 carbine and was most likely made to fit this particular model. The piece shows a parfleche Indian tanned Great American Bison Buffalo hide with rawhide sewn construction. The scabbard has a rich well used patina with wear marks from sweaty hands. The piece was most likely worn on horse back and is truly a unique and desirable warrior used Indian Wars relic of the 19th Century. Provenance: From the private museum collection of early Native American weapons and artifacts in Paris, France. The scabbard measures 27 7/8" long, and 5 1/4" wide at the opening. A photograph is show with the scabbard and Winchester Model 1873 paired together (the rifle is NOT INCLUDED).
