This gun is in overall very good condition with period engraving, approx. 60% original nickel finish on barrel and frame with approx. 75% gold wash on the cylinder, .22 cal., 3-1/2” octagon barrel, checkered black hard rubber grips that are in very good condition with the right grip slightly browned from exposure to sunlight. The casing is in overall very good condition with an un-inscribed brass plaque in the lid, key hole escutcheon cover plate is missing; the purple lining of the interior is overall good with a little fraying of the lid material but not affecting the gold-colored maker’s emblem; the little pearl scaled pocket knife is in very good condition with iridescent scales and two blades, one maker marked “John Watt, Sheffield, England”. Lee Silva is recognized as one of the leading authorities on Wyatt Earp and has been compiling a series of books on his decades of research on the subject. On page 463 of the accompanying Volume is a photo of an engraved Czar revolver that was discovered in 2006 at an estate sale in Hartford, CT. and had the inscriptions: “San Francisco” and “To Josephine Marcus” (Wyatt’s love interest and constant companion from the days of Tombstone (1881) until his death in Los Angeles, CA. (1929); who might have been the recipient of this little cased gem so many years ago . . . . a wife, a companion, a lady of the evening? We’ll never know, but can have fun speculating the possibilities. Est.: $800-$1,600.
