In this lot we have a collection of antique weight scales. Two of the scales are fishing scales and one is a very interesting buffalo hide/tongue scale. The first scale is a 25 lb. Excelsior Spring Balanced scale made by Sargent & Co. It has a loop at the top for hanging the scale and a hook on the bottom for hanging the fish. One side is black metal spring case with some rust. The other is a brass weight measurement side with 1 lb. increments from 0-25. It is stamped with "Excelsior Improved Spring Balance-Sargent & Co.- U.S.A.". The next scale is a larger version of the same design but a different maker coming from John Chatillon and Sons. This scale also has a hoop and hook set for hanging the scale and fish. The back is black painted metal and the front is brass with a 1 lb. increment scale from 0-100. It is stamped with "Chatillons Improved Spring Balance-New York" as well as "Approved Type 34 Serial H New York City". the company has been making scales since 1835 and still continues to do so today. The last piece is a buffalo hide scale from H. Bomer and Co. All original very nice iron spring "C" balance, also known as a Mancur or buffalo hide scale. This hand forged iron scale has a crescent shaped brass dial that reads from 0 to 50 lb., and on the other side from 20 to 400 lb. The solid brass dial has a twisted split pointer allowing both sides of the dial to be read. The number plate is stamped with the a portion of the maker's company and "Germany". Overall the pieces are in good condition for their age. The largest item measures 19"L x 3"W x 2"D.
