Manufactured in 1883. The top of the barrel is marked with the one line address, etched panel "COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER" on the left side, three line, three patent dates on the left side of the frame and "44.C.F." on the upper left front of the trigger guard. The bottom of the barrel just ahead of the cylinder pin is marked "44" and the matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard and back strap with the partial serial number "9049" marked on the cylinder and the assembly number "108" is marked on the loading gate. "Bulls-eye" ejector rod head, blade front and frame notch rear sights, and fitted with a smooth one-piece walnut grip.

Condition: Fine. The revolver retains 30% of the original blue finish, strongest in the protected areas and on the upper right side of the barrel, with a smooth gray patina on the balance. The correct, original acid etched barrel panel is faint, but legible. Overall there are a few minor dents and scratches, and some mild spotting. A few traces of the original case colors remain in the low areas on the frame, with a smooth mottled brownish gray patina on the balance. The grip is also fine, with 50% of the original varnish, some lower edge wear, as well as a few minor chips on the lower left side edge and a few minor dings on the right side. The action is fine. A solid, original example of a desirable Etched Panel Colt 44-40 Single Action Army Revolver!
