This item is an antique Ames Sword Company, Knights Templar Masonic Order sword & scabbard. The sword originates from the Worcester Co. Commandery, Knights Templars of Worcester Massachusetts. The blade is engraved near the hilt with the manufacture name and location; "Ames Sword Co. Chicopee MASS.". the ornate brass cross guard shows twelve stars in a triangle on each end, and each side of the guard. Centrally on the guard, and on each side, there is a decorative rooster. The wonderful brass chain hand guard dangles from the cross guard, and attaches to the knights helmet pommel. The wooden handle shows an additional brass cross. The leather scabbard has brass rigging dees, and it marked near the opening with "In Hoc Signo Vinces", which translates to "In this sign you will conquer". The sword and scabbard are in good condition and date to circa late 1800's to the early 1900's. The leather scabbard does show some drying from age. The sword when inserted into the scabbard measures 36 1/8" long, 5 3/8" wide at the cross guard, and 1" thick at the handle.
