American revolutionary war era musket showing British Tower lock with “GR” and crown, brass mounts, hand hewn stock, European unproofed barrel with large square tang, possibly Dutch. .70+ smoothbore caliber,showing a great deal of shooting with thin walls, probably approx. .69 caliber. Stock shows classic American features in the shape of the stock, thin sheet brass forend cap, crude ramrod ferrules, the drop of the stockand manufacture all indicate American manufacture of the type often termed “Committee of Safety” as colonial forces assembled arms from whatever parts were available to them. The barrel and lock show a deep brown, almost black patina with some light to slightly heavy scattered pitting and erosion, most of the heavier pitting at the firing areas and breech. Stock is good with normal wear, small losses, some chips, normal aging. The mounts show a deep patina and the brass mounts are probably off of a Brown Bess musket. The gun is equipped with a hand hewn wooden ramrod. Front sight is a blade inlaid into the barrel. Gun measures 60” with
