American percussion dueling/target pistol signed L. Gerteis (New Orleans). .46 caliber smooth bore, medium weight 9-3/4” octagon barrel, 16” overall, half stocked in plain walnut, checkered grip, plain iron triggerguard, single set trigger, no buttcap or forend cap, German silver escutcheon around barrel key. The barrel shows considerable original brown drifting to patina with some light to moderate erosion and pinprick pitting. The lock shows traces of grayish case hardening. The stocks are good, with good crisp checkering, some minor dings, mars, scratches, particularly on the butt. The action is not holding on full cock and needs a small repair.
