American late 18th to early 19th century Flintlock pistol with Ketland lock and British proofed barrel, plain brass mounts, simple stock. The pistol measures 14" overall with 9" barrel of approx. 69 calibersmooth bore. The stock shows two brass bands, handmade feral and trigger guard. The side plate is crudely cast brass in an "S" shape and not very inlayed. The metal surfaces show a dark brown patina. The woodshows some worming, cracks, a nail to hold the lock into the stock and a large cap around the lock from poor inletting which is similar to the gaps around the side plate. The lock and barrel appear to have alwaysbeen together and the age is consistent. The lock is not quite working properly. The condition is fair overall. The pistol predates a formation of an American arsenal and had similarities to later Martialpistols. From an old Pennsylvania collection. Est.;$1,250-$2,500.
