American half-stock plains rifle, signed “W. Cooper” on barrel. .36 caliber rifle, nicely artificially striped wood stock, pewter forend cap, pewter star inlay in cheekpiece with brass mounts and brass sideplate that is pierced. Barrel shows a light patina with scattered light to moderate pitting and erosion. The lock shows grey to brown patina with similar pitting and erosion, probably marked “Goulcher” with only the ‘er’ visible. The triggerguard, patchbox and buttplate show a deep patina. The ramrod is missing. The rifle measures 50” overall with 36” medium weight barrel. Just the type rifle that went west, and this one shows a veryfancy pewter forend cap. Est: $400 - $800
