American flintlock dueling pistol converted to percussion by Booth of Philadelphia. The pistol is of large proportions and measures 16-1/4” overall with 10” medium to heavy weight octagon barrel of approx. .65 caliber smoothbore. Full stocked to the muzzle, in good quality walnut with nicely checkered wrist, iron triggerguard with spur, and iron mounts. The mounts are nicely engraved and the pistol shows a gold line at the breech and gold maker’s cartouche. The pistol is in good to very good condition showing a brown patina finish on the barrel, and traces of original striping. There is some light to moderate pitting and erosion, and heavier pitting around the breech area. The pistol has been fitted with a period V-type rear sight and a small silver blade front sight. The lock shows considerable case hardening drifting to silvery grey. The stock is good to very good with some dings, mars, scratches, small openings around the barrel keys, normal wear and use, and at least good to very good. Checkering is sharp. Action is good. An attractive and large sized pistol by a well-known Philadelphia gunsmith. From the William R. Orbelo Collection. Est: $1,500 - $3,000
