American colonial musket or fusil from New England, .69 caliber, 44” barrel, 60” overall. Simple brass mounts and hewn stock, lightly engraved brass mounts and lock. With period bayonet. The touch hole has beenopened. Gun is in its original flintlock configuration with long goose-neck hammer. The topjaw and screw may be very old replacements. Metal surfaces show a deep brown patina with scattered light to moderate pitting. Stocks are good for their age showing small losses around the edges of the lock, a large chip from breech area on left side but generally good overall. There are some areas of repairs to the wood in theforend which are somewhat crude and are old. Forged American type ramrod is included with an old bayonet that is matching. We would date this fusil to the 18th century and may be revolutionary – definitely American made.Provenance: John Gunderson, 1960’s. Est: $1,500 - $3,000
