American Carved powderhorn dated 1776, only example known to collectors with two men dueling. The horn measures approx. 13-1/4” from end to end. The horn is nicely carved in typical 18th century motifs with a central scene of two men in colonial era dress dueling with pistols surrounded by what may be a diagram of a fort. The horn shows the date 1776, a city which shows spires at each end and may be Philadelphia, birds, creatures, and typical naïve early American motifs. The horn is missing its plug, shows some small losses, normal aging, wear from being carried, but generally very good overall. A desirable and rare authentic to the period American horn. From the William R. Orbelo Collection. Est: $10,000 - $15,000
