You are bidding on a Allen & Wheelock .32 Caliber Center Hammer Single Shot Pocket Pistol. Only approx. 500-1,000 of these were made by this famed company in the early 1860s. 4 inch half octagon barrel pivots to the side to load. This was a favorite hideout derringer-style pistol used by riverboat gamblers, prospectors, ladies of the night and many Civil War soldiers who wanted to carry a last-ditch weapon for personal protection. Numerous outlaws also carried these arms for times when their main holster revolver might be confiscated by a lawman (as depicted in the movie Wyatt Earp). This pistol shows aged patina metal and original sights intact. The pistol is in good condition for its age, but shows part of the handle missing, pitting on the barrel, and darkness in the barrel. The left side of barrel clearly marked “Allen & Wheelock. Worcester, Mass.” This is a antique firearm and NO FFL transfer or NICS background check required. The serial number is 173.
