Alberta And British Columbia Sectional Map 1914
Featured in this lot is vintage Alberta and British Columbia Calgary Sheet, sectional map from 1914. The map was published just after the discovery of oil in Turner Valley. This map shows the extent of the transportation infrastructure in the area. Turner Valley, not yet well surveyed and mapped, is at about the halfway point down the east (right) side of the map. The communities of Black Diamond and Lineham are shown near the Sheep River, but the community of Turner Valley does not yet exist. A few rough trails are in the general area. A single surveyed trail extends down the valley from Millarville in the north, and a road goes past Longview in the south. The railway is at the extreme right side, and Okotoks is located just off the edge of the map. The map was published by the Office of the Surveyor General. Overall the map shows good condition for its age, with slight wear to the edges of the map and a small hole on a crease line. The map measures 9 1/4" L x 9 3/4" while folded up and 23 1/2" L x 34" W unfolded.
