Afterthought Book by Jerry Cruz
Very interesting about live music in Vancouver in the late 60s. I don't remember any of this, therefore I must have been there.

This sums up what I liked about the Sixties. Art, music, people, history, counter culture.

Kruz stumbled into being a promoter of Psychedelic Rock Music. His simple rules for promoting a convert were: get a band, get a venue and make a poster. For a couple of years, he presided over The Afterthought at 4th and Arbutus in Vancouver at the still present Russian Community Centre.

Kruz made sure he saved a poster from every show and each poster brings forth his memories of the show and the times.

Imagine getting the Grateful Dead for $500! Imagine them doing an impromptu concert at the English Bay bandstand until busted by the police.

Eventually Kruz was busted by the Drug Squad and actually sentenced to Oakalla Prison but not for dealing just for possession of a joint or two! Who turned him in? Someone in competition?? With a criminal record he wasn't able to be a promoter any more. Regrets? Especially with the openness that marijuana now gets.

Really good read and really unique.
